From July 16th to August 15th, Blato Summer Festival is a traditional summer cultural event that offers both locals and visitors a diverse and rich program of cultural and entertainment activities, with a strong emphasis on the preservation of cultural heritage.
The program includes classical music concerts, majorettes’ dance evenings, open air concerts, children’s creative workshops, chess tournaments, archaeological lectures, book promotions, Municipality Blato emigrants hosting reception, brass bend concerts, as well as eno-gastronomic events throughout the season — starting in early June and running through the end of August — under the recognizable name Okusi mirisi zavičaja – Blato Wine and Dine. This event showcases and offers tastings of traditional products from local producers, with a focus on authentic eno-gastronomic specialties, protected delicacies, products with special labels of quality, and top-quality wines for which our destination is well known. It also features other authentic products from Dubrovnik-Neretva County and beyond.
Various theatre plays enrich the event each year, offering a variety of performances. In addition to several comedies, you will find children theatre plays as well, including puppet theatre shows.
During July and August, exhibitions are organised, presenting local and foreign academic artists.
One of the most anticipated events within Blato Summer Festival is Blato Wine Night, organized by the Association of Friends "Wine in the Tradition of Living" Blato. Here, visitors and wine lovers can discover wineries from our island as well as wineries from other destinations, accompanied by a rich gastronomic offer and the opportunity to taste over one hundred different premium red, white, and rosé wines in the unique ambiance of Park in Blato.
Each week during Blato Summer Festival, guests can experience the richness of traditional folklore through performances by the Knights’ Society Kumpanjija https://tzo-blato.hr/en/povijesna-bastina/kumpanjija performing traditional Blato dances in colourful traditional costumes. The Blato Folklore Festival, hosted by Knights’ Society Kumpanjija, along with the ceremonial lowering of the Blato Summer Festival flag in the historic centre of Blato Plokata on August 15th marks the official closing of the Blato Summer Festival event. However, this is by no means the end of cultural happenings in Blato, which continue not only throughout the summer but all year round. In this segment of the program dedicated to the richness of traditional heritage, visitors can enjoy traditional dances such as the četvorka or quadrille, kotiljun, a suite of carnival dances, Blatski tanac, and, to conclude, the spectacular Kumpanjija sword dance.
